BONECO clears the air
The main pollen season in our region is usually from March to July. This is reason enough for anyone with allergies to address the issue now in order to prevent and reduce symptoms.
Since we at BONECO are constantly dealing with the topics of pollen, allergies, healthy air, air purification, air washing, air humidification, etc., we would like to give you some ideas here that can help pollen allergy sufferers to get through the pollen season without any worries.
1. Keep an eye on the pollen calendar
Inform yourself early about the pollen flight calendar in your region to know when the pollen levels are particularly high and when the flight time is for different types of pollen.
2. Protect indoor spaces
Keep windows and doors closed as often as possible, especially during peak pollen periods, to reduce pollen ingress. To supply your living space with fresh air, only ventilate briefly so that as little pollen as possible enters the room. City dwellers ventilate first thing in the morning; country dwellers in the evening. It is even better to air the room after a long period of rain. After about an hour, the pollen is washed out of the air and those suffering from hay fever can air the room more extensively without worry.
3. Use Air Purifiers to improve air quality
Air Purifiers are devices that clean the air using different types of filters. They can clean the air of dust particles, animal hair, smoke and allergens, fine dust and sometimes viruses and bacteria, depending on the model. Explore our Air Purifier category or get advice on which air filters are suitable for you.
An Air Purifier with a HEPA filter and/or even an H13 filter has been proven to help remove pollen from indoor air. In acute cases, it is recommended to use the Air Purifier only when you are not in the same room, as the moving air picks up pollen from surfaces and it takes a moment for the purifier to clean the air of them.
4. Clean & vacuum regularly
Keep your living spaces particularly clean during the pollen season. Clean surfaces and floors regularly with a damp cloth after dusting and vacuuming to remove any remaining pollen. You should also vacuum carpets and rugs more frequently or even remove them during this time to avoid collecting any pollen.
5. Shower & wash your hair after being outdoors
If you are a morning shower person, it may be advisable to change your routine during the pollen season and shower and wash your hair in the evening when you get home to remove pollen from your skin and hair.
6. Don’t take your daytime clothing into the bedroom
Clothes that have been worn outside should be taken off and stored outside the bedroom before going to bed. This will minimize the pollen load in the bedroom and allow you to have a relaxed, deep sleep without sneezing and itching. It is even more efficient to wash your day clothes directly in the washing machine after wearing them. Remember NOT to hang your laundry outside during this time because pollen sticks to fabrics. People with a tumble dryer or a drying room should prefer these for drying laundry.
7. Wear sunglasses
Sunglasses can help to protect your eyes from direct contact with pollen.
8. Rinse your nose & apply cream
Regular nasal rinsing with a saline solution can help to flush pollen out of the nose and reduce symptoms. Also remember to use a nasal ointment to keep the nasal mucous membranes moist and thus provide additional protection against viruses and bacteria.
9. Mow the lawn / Garden care
It is best to delegate this task temporarily to non-allergy sufferers. Grasses and flower meadows should be cut short regularly to reduce the pollen count in the garden.
10. Plan vacations in low-pollen regions
If possible, plan your vacations or next trip to higher altitudes or to the coast ;-) Check the pollen calendar of your chosen destination in advance to get temporary relief.
